The image is taken by a camera, mounted in a temperature-controlled plastic dome. From the South Pole the images are sent to The University of New South Wales. The image should update every 10 minutes when satellite connectivity is available.

From the South Pole the images are sent to UNSW where they are placed on this mirror site, making them accessible to people all over the world. The image is set to automatically update every 10 minutes when satellite connectivity to the pole is available.
