An entrepreneur in Irvine, California, Allison Sansone, has developed a process whereby users can the Be There Bedtime Stories website, select a book and follow the instructions to record themselves reading the book. A link is emailed to the favorite child.

The only requirements are a computer, internet connection and a webcam.

The original plan involved the creation of DVDs that people could mail to their favorite children, but technology has grown so much with the advent of systems like Skype and Ivideochat, that Sansone decided to change her concept.

The website has more than 200 children’s e-books from six publishers available and creation of a recording starts at $9.99.
