An entrepreneur in Irvine, California, Allison Sansone, has developed a process whereby users can the Be There Bedtime Stories website, select a book and follow the instructions to record themselves reading the book. A link is emailed to the favorite child.

The only requirements are a computer, internet connection and a webcam.

The original plan involved the creation of DVDs that people could mail to their favorite children, but technology has grown so much with the advent of systems like Skype and Ivideochat, that Sansone decided to change her concept.

The website has more than 200 children’s e-books from six publishers available and creation of a recording starts at $9.99.

The couple claim in a lawsuit filed in Pennsylvania, that Aaron’s, a PC rental store where they rented a Dell Inspiron laptop, allegedly took a picture of the husband, Brian Byrd using spy software from DesignerWare, a company that is also named in the suit.

Brian and Crystal Byrd say that the manager from Aaron’s showed up at the Byrd’s house claiming that they had violated their lease and presented them with a webcam photo. Brian Byrd told the Associated Press that the manager “was just trying to…get an easy repossession.”

He allegedly threatened the two girls with physically violence if they didn’t comply. The girls were told that they would be beaten up at school the following day if they didn’t perform.

The girls were recorded performing various sex acts which were later posted on Facebook.

In Perth Children’s Court the boy expressed remorse about the incident.

The boy is being held in detention while Judge Denis Reynolds decides on sentencing.

This photo is of the Amundsen-Scott South Pole Station taken every 15 minutes (if a relay satellite is available for transmission) from the roof of the National Science Foundation’s Atmospheric Research Observatory which houses NOAA/ESRL’s Clean Air Facility. In order to preserve the life of the camera, it is tilted down onto the snow when the sun is in the field of view, which occurs for several weeks around sunset (March) and sunrise (September) when the sun marches in a circle above the horizon. From mid-April until mid-August the moon and the aurora australis provide the only natural lighting.

The new station can be seen to the right in the photo; the old (circa 1973) domed station is to the left. The new station is elevated above the snow to prevent it being buried by the drifting snow (the present fate of the old domed station).
